Mulhouse

FRANCE - Alsace

Presentation

A cosmopolitan, industrial town

Mulhouse is a town with a rich industrial past. As a result, its charms are somewhat subtler than those of the neighbouring towns.

However, Mulhouse's old town offers a number of attractive walks where visitors can soak up the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the town while discovering its historical monuments including the Town Hall or the protestant church of Saint-Étienne.

The "new" district, created at the time of the Industrial Revolution is home to the "Square de la Bourse" (stock market square), the Roman baths, the Tour de l’Europe (Tower of Europe) and numerous attractive properties once belonging to local captains of industry.

Finally, the leafy district of Rebberg with its attractive and architecturally fascinating large private buildings is certainly worth discovering before or after a visit to the remarkable zoological and botanical gardens which are also located in this area.

A town rich in museums

Its rich industrial past and the dynamism of the town's key players in the cultural field have enabled Mulhouse to create a significant number of museums.

Their sheer quality and quantity have earned the town the title of "European capital for technical museums".

Museums such as the Cité de l’Automobile ("Car City" which is home to the Schlumpf collection), the Cité du Train (Train City), the Museum of Printed Textiles and the EDF "Electropolis" Electrical Museum are definitely "must-see" tourist attractions.
