Arrow urchin 
 

Stylocidaris affinis

Almost spherical sea-urchin with large primary spines surrounded at the base by smaller ones. Reddish. Found on detrital or muddy bottoms, from 30 meters down to 1000.

Shell measures up to 5 cm diameter.

Black sea urchin

Arbacia lixula 

Slightly squashed shell with short spines. Characteristic black color. Lives on rocky bottoms rich in coralline seaweeds, from 1-2 meters to 40.

Shell diameter measures up to 6 centimeters.

Melon urchin

Echinus melon

Large-shelled urchin, semispherical or slightly conical. Small, scanty, spines. Shell is green or yellowish and the spines have alternate light and dark bands.  Found on rocky bottoms from 20-30 meters to 100 meters.

 Maximum shell size 14 centimeters.

Long-spined urchin

 
Centrostephanus longispinus

Round-bodied urchin with numerous, very long and highly mobile, spines. Purply-brown; the spines have alternate light and dark hoops. Found on rocky, poorly-illuminated bottoms, from 10-15 meters down to 200.

Shell diameter up to 4 centimeters.

Maximum shell size 7 centimeters.

Slightly squashed shell. Not many spines, but strong and sharp. Color varies from reddish through brown through purplish. 4 Found on algae-rich rocky bottoms and amongst Neptune grass from 1-2 meters to 80.

White tip sea urchin

Sphaerechinus granularis

Round shape, easily recognised by its blue-purple spines with white tips. Found on rocky bottoms and amongst Neptune grass. from 3-5 meters to 100.

Maximum shell diameter 13 centimeters.

Purple heat urchin 

Spatangus purpureus

Heart-shaped shell without the usual radial symmetry,covered in scanty spines and flattened on the back.The top side of the shell has a pattern of lanceolate petals on it.Dark purplish with whitish spines.Found on sandy,detrial bottoms from 15-20 meters to 900.

Echinocardium cordatum

Heart-shaped shell,longer than it is wide.Spines and tubercules are fine and uniform. Yellowish-grey.

Found on sandy bottoms from 10-15 meters down to 250 meters, where it buries itself.
